Google Chrome Program Files (x86) and Program Files shortcuts

Hi

 

Our desktop shortcut points to c:\Program files (x86) but Chrome has now started installing itself in the c:\Program files directory if manually done.

 

I've tried forcing a symbolic link between both directories but no luck - but is there anyway to have just one shortcut on the desktop that works for both?

Having very similar issues here. Very interested in a fix too.

 

Other fix we're thinking of is uninstalling google from the whole site and then reinstalling in the new location but would rather not do that.

I've just created a vb.net application that checks to see if chrome.exe exists in either location and opens accordingly. Would you like me to pm you to give it a try?

I hate Google for doing this, if they had just said 'right from update XXX Chrome will update and reinstall under C:\Program Files' that would have been fine as we have auto update across the estate, but instead existing installs remain under Program Files x86 and new installs Program Files

There are native 32Bit and 64Bit versions of Google Chrome. I have installers for both.

Have you tried using 2 group policy shortcuts? One of which checks to see if the 64bit version is installed, if so modify the shortcut so that it points to that version, and the other GPO shortcut checks to see if the 32bit version is installed and the 64bit version is not installed in which case it modifies the shortcut to point to the 32 bit version.

Uninstall Google Chrome completely and then re-install the new version of the 64-bit kernel only...
