Secure sharing of videos

Hi all,

 

Have been asked by one of our primary schools surrounding ideas for publishing a video securely to all parents. The idea is their Christmas production /performances by sent to individual class parents.

 

My questions are:

 

• On a technical level how would you go about this? I think it is going to be very tricky. Initial thoughts are OneDrive is a possibility with named individuals but this does not stop parents saving / downloading the video
  
• GDPR is another big concern. I am certain this would have to be an opt-in with clear details on what the school were doing, how it was being published and the risks surrounding this. Even with all safe-guards put in place you cannot rule out screen grabbing, mobile phone recording etc.

Are there any other issues I have not considered. How we you go about this or would it be a simple no.

OneDrive would be the easiest and best option in terms of sharing it, sharing it directly with the parent's email addresses. However once you've shared a file it's out in the open. There is NOTHING you can do to stop someone from making a copy of a video and sharing it themselves. Even if you can stop a file from being downloaded from the source, someone with enough will power will screen record the video as you've mentioned. The same would apply back in the day when DVD's were made of school performances, nothing stopping someone from copying the disc / recording the AV.

Do you ban everyone from videoing a live performance?

 

Put it on your online platform so the kids can sign in and the parents can see it, unless parents also have logins
