Steve21 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Good Afternoon All, Hopefully the answer is everyone's already aware, and already worked around it, but don't forget the update that will smite Flash is coming up soon in January: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4577586/update-for-removal-of-adobe-flash-player Steve 2
free780 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 That's it. It's over. It's really over. From today, Adobe Flash Player no longer works. We're free. We can just leave • The Register Expect to see this logo on any flash content from today. The removal update has now hit WSUS. 1

free780 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Its in the catalog under the Update category. Its unclear if you have to import it via the WSUS console. Microsoft Update Catalog
Arthur Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 The update is not showing here, what classification is it under? I think it's still an optional update at present. www.prajwaldesai.com/uninstall-adobe-flash-player-using-sccm https://systemcenterdudes.com/adobe-flash-update-sccm-intune-memcm
Steve21 Posted January 15, 2021 Author Posted January 15, 2021 Here's an interesting one then... So after testing on a machine what happens to a few machines/builds after Flash is removed (Going back a story about the previous company having about 10 different versions of Win10 running at once), I ran a SWF file and can imagine my surprise when Adobe Flash Player 11 ran... Seems this site has Adobe CS6 which includes Flash Player 11 as a player so that still runs even after the patch as that won't remove that version Anyone find any smart way of smiting it without breaking Adobe CS6? (Aside from Flash obviously ). I take it apart from Flash builder nothing else runs it within Adobe CS6? Steve 1
DavR Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 I'll be interested to see if the patch removes ALL versions of Flash.... We have a legacy NPAPI version of Flash because it is/was a requirement for Promethean ActivInspire. Just need to test a few online resources, then I'm straight on with it to release that Windows update!

In the notes on the patch: This update only removes Adobe Flash Player that was installed by your version of Windows. If you installed Adobe Flash Player manually from another source, it will not be removed. Steve 1

I’ll have the same issue.

Steve21 Posted January 15, 2021 Author Posted January 15, 2021 I swear Flash isn't going to die nicely... Thought I'd try a few other random old rubbish programs they use here, and even though SWFs stop working after removing CS6, if I run the exe/wrappers the Flash files still work... Either they have another Flash player hidden somewhere, or can these wrapper exe's have flash built into them? (Not that I've ever seen that being a case, but thinking 10 year old+ programs here!) Steve
DavR Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Looks like this patch only kills of the mainstream version of Flash then, as distributed with Windows. Maybe the one attached to Chrome browser also. Legacy versions you'll need to do yourself....

Steve Yes, they can. They’re also (relatively) safe from what I can fathom, because they’re running particular content only - I’d guess that could be exploited going forward though. 1
