Rob_D Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Afternoon guys, As I may have mentioned before, we're moving from just Office 365 to a 365/GSuite mix. According to the support company we've got in to help with the GSuite stuff, there isn't a classroom admin view where we can see all the provisioned classes and check/manage memberships when, inevitably, the teacher claims half their classes are missing or something. (Like the 365 Teams Admin console) I can't believe this is true? How can IT Support be expected to support without access to a high level view of the system? How have people who use GSuite gotten around this? Do you just make all your techs members of each class? Thanks!

I am admin for our Google Classroom domain and I can confirm that you can easily look at all of your users who may or may not have been organised into classes. It is easy to go into a class, add new users, remove ones who have left (and archive their files if needed). You can also change names, email addresses and passwords individually in this view. So, they sound like they are chatting nonsense or maybe don't want to be bothered to set up classes? 1

But I can't find where I can view or administer the Google Classroom classes in admin.google.com and don't see anything classrom.google.com as I'm not a member of any of the classes. It's supposed to have been done through wonde synch from our MIS, so I have no idea what's been provisioned at this point. Is it that you've got your/the admin account as a member of each class? Or is there an actual admin console I'm not finding?

rogerdnixon Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 As mentioned - you will need GAM - ideally GAMADV-XTD3 - https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3 Basic commands are all here: https://github.com/jay0lee/GAM/wiki/Managing-Google-Classroom - "gam print courses todrive" will give you all your courses in a spreadsheet in a few seconds (or a few minutes for us as we have ~10000.....) I'd suggest syncing classes straight from your MIS rather than getting people to make classes. You can use GAM and a few scripts to do this - or third parties like Wonde will do it for a small cost. If you want a good GUI rather than commandline - them C-Learning has a nice tool: https://www.c-learning.net/en/classroom-toolbox Classroom management is pretty simple - especially if you have something like Wonde setup - pretty much looks after itself. 2

It would be the case only if you were a user that's been added to every single class somehow (not advisable!). If you're not in a class, you don't get to see it on the pages of Google Classroom, even if you're a superuser. The API appears to be the only way to manage other people's classes. You can't do it anywhere within the pages of Google Admin. Generally, for troubleshooting, that means using the API to find the class and add yourself as a teacher, sort the issue, then remove yourself again (unless you want a million emails about assignments being handed in). 1
fiza Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 In my Primary School I am a teacher in every Google Classroom permanently. I just switch off all notifications so I don't get any emails about posts etc. Being a member of every class allows quick resolution of any issues. I wouldn't do this at our Secondary as there are many more classes and we use GAM instead for there. 2

paulkerton Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 I tried Classroom Toolbox, but found that it was basically a web based front-end to GAM, really. I have Bromcom syncing all of our classes, so all I do is produce a list of classes for the teacher user that Bromcom is syncing with as a Google Sheet, and use that user's login and the Sheet to jump into the classes I need. 300+ classes on the Classroom interface slows it down considerably, whereas the Sheet has a link to each classroom.
