We have students logging in as following:

20SurnameInitial

19SurnameInitial

etc

based on their intake year and username.

Whats the quickest way to create dynamic email distribution groups in office 365, for each year using the year and a wildcard so if students start 20*... they are in a 2020 intake email distribution group, 19 in a 2019 distribution group etc.

Thanks.

Do you synchronise your active directory accounts and groups to O365?

Assuming you have AD security groups for year groups, turn them into a mail-enabled security group and it'll take care of itself. It'll by dynamic in the sense that it will update when your on-prem syncs to O365, but they won't strictly be a "dynamic O365" group, which is an actual separate thing.

Alternatively, something like Salamander might take care of it.
