Disable @ mentions in Teams status

Hi All,

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable @ mentions in status message within Teams?

 

Our students are using it to "chat" with each other.

Just come off the phone with MS support there is no way at present to disable this feature. But they did mention using the feedback button within the Team admin console to flag the issue.

turn off chat by applying a messaging policy in teams. it has some predefined policies to choose from and you can apply it based on a security group. To make a useful security group use can ask SDS to create an "all students" security group. Then apply the "secondary student" profile to that security group. This can all be done from the web interface.

 

EDIT: to clarify we use this policy to disable the chat button, this prevents students from having a 1 to 1 dialog. The policy also stops them from starting a meeting of their own in a class group.

 

EDIT2: I think @Mentions can be disabled in the teams group. (so with chat disabled all good)

 

SLT here didn't want pupils chatting with each other as it presented a safeguarding issue. The pupils can still post to the team group that is monitored by a teacher.

Thanks. We already do that. This is a different problem. Some pupils have found that they can use the @ feature to include people in their custom status message. It's not the same as the Chat function, but is being used as a form of 'chat'.
