Embedding OneDrive/Sharepoint documents into a 'normal' webpage

Has anyone managed to get Word/Excel documents embedded in a non-SharePoint publicly accessible website?

 

According to Microsoft it is officially supported (MS KB Article) but when I use the 'File > Share > Embed' option in the web based version of Word/Excel this defaults to only allowing users within our tenant access.

I'm fairly sure this could be resolved by adjusting the defaults within the admin sharing options but for obvious reasons I don't want to do that for the entire tenant.

TLDW; essentially use the share option and add '' to the end of the URL in the iframe.

Looks promising but my results have been inconsistent.

 

Works fine in Firefox.

Doesn't work in Chrome.

Works in Safari on MacOS.

Doesn't work in Safari on iOS or iPadOS.

 

So dig a little further the blog post attached to the YouTube video above links to a more detailed (MS KB Article) suggesting it is supported but also has a small number of comments with some people having it working and some not (nothing conclusive).

 

Have I missed something?

To answer the obvious question; we don't just want to link to a word document that can be downloaded as we want staff to be able to edit the document without having to pass it back through our developer

I keep being told 'gSuite does this out of the box' which isn't helpful.

I was trying to do similar on Google Sites and you'll be pleased to hear it also has quirks.

 

I ended up converting the documents into "Sways". It was a bit of a faff, but I found it worked well on different sized screens and browsers. Once you show the staff how to do it, they can edit them just as easily as of they were in Word.

Digging up this old thread. I am trying to embed a spreadsheet on a website for public view but when i do it asks for users to sign in.

 

However if I just share a link and "allow anyone with link" to view it it will display no problem with no request to sign in. Any ideas / progress?
