Apparently not a particularly faithful to the game movie, but I'm one of the few that will admit to finding most of Paul W S Anderson's films fun.

My oldest really loves the monster hunter games and has already decided he hates this film

 

From what I can gather it is only very loosely tied to the actual monster hunter lore/premise. Having not played I have no idea but my boy is pretty vocal about it

But as Paul WS Anderson has a more than spotty history with his film making, and seems to make movies purely to give his wife work, I'll give this one the widest of wide passes.
