[ms office - o365] PowerPoint Video Embed - Requires IE? Really!

Hi All,

 

So it turns out that even Microsoft Office 365 Desktop is still wanting good old Internet Explorer. I recently discovered that embeding a YouTube video (Likely all online videos) in PowerPoint 365 works up until the point you come to press play. At which point it fails and says it requires Internet Explorer to be installed.

 

I've had a look on uservoice and couldn't find a suggestion to move away from requiring IE so I've made one:

Still suffering with this here and Microsoft site still says to install IE even though it's falling out of support left right and center.

Did you ever find a fix for this? we started to struggle recently too.

 

Figured out it was to do with IE but not sure on next steps.

 

Any suggestions other than to use cloud powerpoint?

Haven't seen issues with embedding YouTube videos for years, assuming you're using the latest Office LTSC or M365 Apps for Business.

 

Just paste the video link (not the embed link that the article above says) into Insert -> Video -> Online Video and it will create the embed automatically for you.

We are using 2019. I have tried link and embed code. both produce a black box that doesnt play. Only way it works is downloading the video locally. but of course this causes the powerpoints to be huge

Found your issue, EOL Software

Isn't 2019 EOL now? I'm pretty sure LTSC 2021 had it, if you still need Publisher and have Office through volume licencing such as OVS-ES.

we are swapping over in the summer. I was hoping it would last another few months but its just causing issues now which it hasn't previously
