ITGURU Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Does anyone have experience with using fixed IP Sim cards in the UK? I have a 4g Router which I want to use purely as a back door into the network should the primary network connection fail so I can check to see if it's an internal or external issue. I know that it needs to be a static IP sim card so i can remote in using the static IP to the router/network. There seems to be a host of different providers, but looking to see if anything else uses these SIMS cards and costs where they have purchased from. As it will be seldom used for access, other than idling, don't want to spend a lot if there's a better PAYG option. Thanks.
Steve21 Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Depending on the router and it's abilities have you considered just using something like dynamic DNS? (No-Ip/DynDNS etc), so it just links to a domain and will change IP with it Steve 1

Do send me a PM if you're interested. Regards David
MatthewL Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 I was actually looking into this recently and not aware of any that do but Andrews & Arnold kept coming up as the ones for this.

Hi ITGURU we can offer fixed IP SIM from multiple carriers, PAYG or longer term. Drop me a PM if you'd like some pricing cheers Lee
ibpalle Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 With regards to Dynamic DNS - the router does not have to support it. Traffic out is NATted to the IP so often a client, if available, can be run on an internal machine and achieve the same result.
MatthewL Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 All good and well using Dynamic DNS but its only ever going to show you the gateway IP as most devices only ever get a CGNAT IP rather than true external address. 1
