Im looking to get this setup fully.

Currently we have

O365 Setup to our internal domain ( School.org)

Exchange 2016 Local setup ( ExternalEmail.org)

But as most know its a complete pain to get things working correctly ( especially Teams) without emails accounts being avaliable in O365

I am assuming i need to do the following

Add ExternalEmail.org as an extra Domain Name in AD

Setup the ADsync to sync this to O365 ( Also enable Hybrid in this )

Then setup Hybrid with Exchange local

Once i do this, will this muck up peoples phones who have the outlook app pointed to our local Exchange ( Its still done via Autodiscover )

Im also assuming once i have done this , Staff members can then login to Exchange with their Email address instead of [email protected]

You’ve pretty much got it. You add the UPN suffix, then bulk change the users over to that in AD. Then wait for AADC to sync over the changes. Users will then log in with their email addresses rather than usernames (Hwb, take note here as it confuses everyone when these differ!)

Make sure your DNS entries for autodiscover etc are all correct. If these point to school.org, you’ll need to change it and the certificates (I’d guess they’re all sorted already though).

Only when everything is working, properly, should you initiate the Hybrid wizard, otherwise you’ll have mountains of errors. I went Hybrid this summer, and I didn’t have the autodiscover cert right so calendars weren’t working in Teams. All sorted now.

Thanks for that,

Do i need to adjust all users in AD to use the new UPN suffix for Office365 to pick this up.

Also if this is the case, i assume all new users will need to be created using the new UPN. May have to script it to check every few days for any stragglers that are added throughout the year.
