Internet filtering on ipads - cloud off prem

We're currently using smoothwall cloud filtering for our chromebooks that years 10-13 have. We're think about getting years 7-9 ipads which we'll manage through endpoint.

I dont think smoothwall cloud filter works on ipads. Are there any alternative? We want the device to filter even when they're used at home like smoothwall does now.

 

Any pointers on the best way to manage ipads using endpoint are also most welcome. Im planning on having them working device based with the student setting the password then using o365 through the browser and apps then deploying appropriate apps for them to use

Seriously - iPads is troublesome for various reasons and at the moment, the 'best' option for off site filtering is by way of the global proxy options on Smoothwall and enforced proxy settings on the iPad. With a good MDM setup I'm sure other solutions could be found that would be less cumbersome but without relying on any other tools, the global proxy is a valid option.

 

It does pose challenges mainly on authentication and validation so contact support or your account manager if you would like a chat on the in- and outs.

I'd give them chromebooks if you could buy some in bulk. I'd need nearly 500

 

I've spoken to our account manager at Smoothwall and apparently they can filter off prem through the on prem box. Not sure how but it mgith have me having to buy something just for some Ipads.

 

Also iPads are fantastic. Get a license on Endpoint and you can manage them for basically free.

As I said, the global proxy is a valid option. A bit clunky to setup but will work fine for iPads.
