GPO not applying

Hi all,

I've got a problem with a GPO not applying.

 

We used to deploy various desktop shortcuts using a dedicated GPO applied to the top level in Group Policy Management.

 

These would apply for all users.

 

Recently however we want to deploy different shortcuts depending on whether the person logging on is staff or student.

 

So I created two versions of the GPO shortcut and applied these to the student OU and the staff OU.

 

I also removed the original GPO from the top level.

 

Now neither of the GPOs apply - they don't show when I do gpresult /R

 

I am assuming that this is because I am trying to deploy a Computer policy change through a User OU.

 

But how do I implement this - how can I do different desktop shortcuts based on Users logging on?

 

Any ideas?

The way we do it here is folder redirection GPO, which is a user policy. We have a folder for staff icons and a folder for student icons and use the folder redirection to point to the correct one.

Are you using GPP? You should still see it in a gpresult -h though. Do you have multiple DCs? Could be pulling from a DC that hasn't had the changes replicated to it.

 

 

You could try putting them on the computer OU and using security filtering to target the user groups.
