Desktop Redirection and Excel / Word 2016

Evening everyone

Got a wierd one that is totally frustrating me.

I re-direct everyones desktop to a central location, staff and students have theire own area so i can throw links in easy, works well. EXCEPT you open Excel and click save as, then browse or documents and nothing happends, nothing opens at all. CTRL + S does nothing either. Remove the desktop redirection, it works fine. Seems that Excel needs to have write access to the desktop to save????!!!! Never had tis issue in Windows 7, any ideas greatly appreciated.
