Projectors!

Following on from this thread about our projectors flickering and not getting any proper fix and Hitachi telling us we have done everything they would suggest.

 

We are now looking at new projectors so can anyone recommend a decent projector that wont flicker and be suitable for students with epilepsy.

IMO in a classroom scenario projectors are a thing of the past. TCO reduction with a television screen touch or non-touch, higher quality image, more reliable and less ongoing maintenance, plus plenty that come with a 5 year warranty.

Maybe, but we dont have the money to replace with screens.

We're in the same place to be honest.

 

Casio dropping out the market with the lamp free ones is a pain in the bum.

 

Epson are still my favourites to be honest. Epson EB-X39 is a recent one we've been supplied with.

I'd love to do exactly that.

 

We're not in a position to do that either though. [emoji26]

I'd like to get rid of the 4:3 smartboards and replace with interactive flat-panels all over. Just can't see that happening at £300 versus £1K optimistically.

Classroom projectors are not a thing of the past. You may think TCO is cheaper, but not all school have that much capital to invest up front. There are also other considerations such as required image size which makes projectors more suitable. I still install projectors in 30 capacity classrooms if there's a need for them, otherwise 86" touch panels are my go to choice.

 

For me, Epson are hard to beat. We must be at around 150+ projectors and never give us any grief. If you can afford the laser models I would totally go for them, TCO works out cheaper in the long run if you're using original lamps, but you may work it out different if you use re-conditioned lamps or only replace them when they go pop rather than at recommended intervals.

Hey @hardtailstar, we are partners with both Epson and Hitachi so can happily arrange projectors. Ref the EBX-39, these are now EOL. The new version is due in 1st week of October (ish!) Happy to discuss options to suit budgets, feel free to drop me a PM

Epson EB-W05 is the model we've been getting for the last 1-2 years. They've done us proud, i'd recommend them. (W models are WXGA, X models are only XGA)

 

In terms of TCO of projectors vs displays. Surely it comes down to whether interactivity is required?
