Looking for a Portable HDD/SSD for home lab rotating backups

I was a fan of the Lacie Rugged drives but 3 have failed me in the last 3 years so have completely lost faith in them.

 

I use USB drives for backups as Veeam server is virtual and I have a Silex Network USB server which I connect the USB drive to then store at work. The backups are just of VMs and non-important files, other more important files are scheduled backups to a local NAS and cloud storage.

 

I'm considering a Samsung T5 SSD as I use one for Video backups and been using the SamSung Pro drives for years with no failures.

 

Any other suggestions?

Ive got an ordinary Sandisk SSD in a caddy which I use for back ups, Ive had it for years and it gets used weekly.

 

It was cheaper at the time to buy the SSD as is and get a caddy then buying the same size packaged as a portable SSD.

Yeah I am in 2 minds to do the same, it's not like I'm going to be throwing the disks around, and I have an unused USB external caddy lying around, lol.

My back up isn't portable but I just installed Windows 10 on an old PC and shared the drives on the network. Job done!

That would be fine but really want off site storage, even though it is a lab I use it like production, lol.

 

I would look at cloud but I can only get 15Mbps upload speed on home connection and it would take a bit of time to upload, then think about the cost of download to restore which seems to cost more than the storage itself.
