HP laptop - screen fading to white...

As the title says.

 

I've seen this before but never fixed it and scrapped the laptops as the were old anyway.

Now I have another HP laptop (HP 250 G6), so still old but it is our current teachers laptop model!

 

Starts OK and then screen fades to white!

 

 

 

Any ideas why this happens?

 

Rather not scrap and replace this one but it is going to be difficult to get hold of and fix/replace screen over holidays etc...

Is it the LCD panel or the graphics card? What happens if you plug in a separate monitor?

@Koldov, I’ve had the same issue with some HP 640 G2 laptops. It was the actual screens that had gone faulty. Thankfully they were under warranty.

Hoping it's the LCD panel! I don't have the laptop unfortunately it is with the teacher, she contacted me (one of the very few with my mobile number as they are SLT) with a couple of screenshots of what was happening and I don't think she has a spare monitor to check. Annoyingly it is 3 days into the holidays.... but apparently it has been happening for a while...

Looks like it, but I wonder what the actual problem is...(seems to be reasonably common on HP laptops)? Not under warranty which is a shame, but probably a quicker turnaround if I just order one and replace it myself.

 

Obviously it's the holidays and nobody is in school and the teacher lives quite far away!

Sorry for the necro, but just had another one of these...

 

HP 250 G6, screen fades slowly to white whilst in use, second screen/projector not affected.

 

This one ran out of warranty in January.

 

Guess that's another screen replacement then, where's everybody recommend to buy from these days?

 

Anywhere to avoid etc.

 

Looking at https://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/, I think that's where we got the last one (but user complained of 'blue tinge to white sections on the display').

 

Can't believe they're £80 - but can't really trust a £20 ebay job...

If the image starts OK and then slowly fades to white, it's usually not an issue with the LCD itself but rather the connection between the LCD and the mobo or even a graphic driver issue, although in my experience it's the former.

 

I've seen it due to liquid damage corroding the connector for example.

 

Have you disassembled the laptop and tried reseating the LCD video cable at both ends? The end on the LCD is usually taped down but the end on the mobo might have become loose or damaged. The cable itself can also have damage internally which is usually evidenced by the screen flickering/coming back to life if you move the screen on its hinges etc.

 

You might then be able to order just the video cable to try that on eBay (will usually have a sticker with part no. on)

 

One other thing is to plug it into an external display, go into device manager and uninstall the graphics driver and allow windows to reinstall, just in case.

 

Otherwise, I've bought LCD panels direct from eBay, laptopsandspares.com and laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk before.
