HP 620 laptop... white screen!

Hi All,

 

I know this is a bit of a generic question, but does anybody have these HP 620 laptops?

 

I now have had two of these go whitescreen on me and various things have worked temporarily (such as turning on with lid a 30 degrees, pulling the screen out and jiggling* wires) sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. All work with an external monitor.

 

Today a teacher has brought me another one!

 

Strangest thing I have ever seen a laptop do and I wondered if anyone else has seen it...

 

The colour and image slowly fades out, flip the screen down or wiggle* it a bit and the image comes back. Stand it on its edge and the image drains away and fades to white!

 

Does anyone have a clue what is going on with these laptops?!

Sounds like the ribbon/flexi connector to the screen has become damaged. These are usually fiddly, but not impossible, to replace - and can often be bought on Ebay etc.
