[sims] View (Own) permission in SIMS?

Am I right in thinking that the "View (Own)" permission in SIMS provides read-only access to things about you (the employee linked to the user account) in the context of staff users?

 

We're trying to give staff read-only access to their CPD record in SIMS and if I assign the permission:

 

Staff > Professional > View (Own) to my test user, they can view qualification data on all staff.

 

So either I'm misunderstanding what the permission is supposed to do, or it's broken.

Are you sure that's the right permission you mean? Not got SIMs here currently, but on my spreadsheet of permissions:

 

There's Staff -> Professional -> View (Which is defaulted to roles like personnel managers)

 

or Staff Performance -> Professional (CPD) -> View (Own) (Which is defaulted to roles like line managers/staff etc)

 

- Edit - On a side note, if you mean the 2nd one I'm pretty sure there's already a SP permission group setup for that (but it does have edit access), so might want to have a look unless you're happy doing it role by role

Sorry, I had both selected - should have said.

 

If I remove "Staff > Professional > View (Own)", it does remove the qualification data, however it also removes the "Professional" tab entirely (which is where CPD is displayed).

 

I don't have a (sufficiently low-privileged in SIMS) real person to test with yet, so I don't know whether that means you need both settings enabled to see the CPD area or not.

There's a note here:

 

Staff members will need to be in the Line Management Structure or manually added to a Staff Performance Permissions Group to see this panel

 

Based on that it should show up with any of the SP groups (Might be worth testing it with SP Staff to just see if it because you removed the Edit that the way you're viewing it isn't showing)

 

But if you want to make your own group settings these are all the permissions the SP Staff group gives, then try taking out the Edit's I guess
