Windows 10 Edu N - 1909 - set up steps

Finally (!!) getting a chance to upgrade to Windows 10 & I'm in the process of creating a test image on a virtual machine.

 

I've gone for the Windows 10 Edu N 1909 version, and been looking through the various advice on here about what to remove etc... it appears not much of it is relevant to the Edu N version.

 

Has anyone gone for this version, and what modifications did you need to make to the base image, or are all customisations available via GPOs?

I wouldn't do any modification to the base image, it's only going to cause you more work in the future when you do upgrades etc.

 

GPO it all, or at least do it as a step/script as part of your install depending if you're using SCCM/MDT etc etc

Thanks - I'm just planning to use WDS to deploy the images out.

 

Can I use GPO to remove things such as the XBOX link, Microsoft Store shortcut etc? Also - for basic software which is installed on all computers by default, again GPO it out?

And also if I remove any extra programs & apps at the start before sysprepping such as the MS Office, solitaire etc initial spam) - Will these stay removed for each user from then on?

 

I’ve got a basic image ready to sysprep with an unattend file next week then!

I mean, yes to all your questions, but also "It depends"

 

You can remove all the apps/add programs etc, but normally you'd use some software on top to do it, whether SCCM etc. You can do it all via GPO, just not as neat as it could be.

 

But yes if you remove things like apps, from the default accounts, it'll remove them for all users as long as it's done before they log in

 

Best thing to do is have a play, and see where you get stuck, most of the things for Win10 are in one of these threads explaining how to do it all

The other option is to download and use the decrapifier script for 1909 post install

That script is fantastic thanks! Ran that today & tested it - it looks to have done the job nicely.

 

I’ll sysprep & capture the image next and hopefully soon be able to do a test user login.
