E_G_R2 Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 When trying to use either the app or web based version of Teams students are getting the following message on their screen "sorry, we couldn't connect you" This is in school on IT classroom PC's I've tested with a staff account and both versions of Teams work. I've moved a test pupil into a container that allows them to access the 'C' drive - my initial thought on the error but they still get in. Anybody had a similar issue in school using Teams?
supportman Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 Not seen this sorry, we disallow the C: drive and teams works fine.
chazzy2501 Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 This is going to be a web filtering issue surely. use the web based version of teams as a test pupil, use the inspect element by right clicking on something (to trick into the dev options) then use the network tab to see what is and isn't working for a pupil. (I assume you've blocked dev tools for pupils, thus the inspect element workaround) 1
jcollings Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 Might sound like a daft question but have you enabled Teams for students. It is on by default for faculty but off by default for students. Go to the Office 365 Admin Centre and slide the new admin centre to the left to turn it off (it will be to the right and blue when you first logon In the menu bar on the left expand Settings and click on Services & add-ins In the middle pane select Microsoft Teams Find Settings by user/license type. Select Students using the drop down arrow and move the slider to On Click Save and exit. Teams in now enabled for students
E_G_R2 Posted June 1, 2020 Author Posted June 1, 2020 OK Teams works for pupils on their own devices. I can logon as a staff member to the domain PC then use either the client or web based teams app as the pupil and it works. Logged on as the test pupil then zippo. I've moved the test account to a staff container and still Zippo Scratches head

Teams works from AppData folder and updates itself in that folder you it needs AppLocker approval to do so.
E_G_R2 Posted June 1, 2020 Author Posted June 1, 2020 Got it! Filtering issue on via our Smoothwall box. As we have Y4 upwards we have a multi aged filtering setup and of course its our Y6 who are back in school. Now just need to see what criteria is blocking Teams, suspect something to do with things like facebook and other social stuff that is age limited. If anyone knows it would save me some digging tie :)Thanks for all your responses. The clue was in there!
