Live broadcasting lessons

Hi,

We have been asked to look into broadcasting lessons live, both to other classrooms and students at home. Is anyone already doing this or just started looking into it?

We are also looking into this. If you are using office 365 if seems to be pretty straight forward. You can either use Teams to do a live broadcast or you can use Stream to pre record the session and then post it as a new Tab within the Teams page.

 

Also, get the teacher to set the page up as a virtual classroom and Teams sets all the collaboration stuff up in the background for the teacher to share with the pupils.

 

finally, you can use the admin side to analyse who has actually logged in and viewed the broadcast. We are also looking a basing a question sheet where the pupil will get the answers from the broadcast so we can make sure they actually watch it and not just log in and then close it straight away.

You can do it in Google Meet too, if you're a Google school. Fairly simple to setup and use.

We aren't particularly tempted to encourage it though, even when teachers are back in classes. You'll need a fairly healthy broadband connection to support multiple classes streaming live video out at the same time, and the unions are absolutely dead set against live streaming.

We are using Microsoft Teams for remote learning with Salamander/SDS to extract the class data from SIMS to create the classes in Teams. Before our school closures for the lockdown, the teachers could only use prerecorded material. They have since started to use live streaming video of the teacher on the understanding that the lessons are recorded for pupils to access the lesson afterwards and safeguarding reasons.

 

We are also using Teams for staff CPD webinar training for ones with less than 250 members. We have needed to use Teams Live Events as we have required to broadcast to around 550 people and found this really easy to setup and send bulk email using mail merge for emails.

Live Streaming lessons? Is this different to live lessons where students are in a virtual classroom and have access to only the teacher screen. No cameras enabled. Only teacher audio enabled and students ask questions via a message box?

 

Is live streaming lessons classed as "live" so attendees are unable to ask questions. A bit lile a live broascast on TV.
