How to find switch ip?

Ive got a 2nd hand switch recently, and i need to find its ip, is there any way to find the switches ip by talking to its mac address some how to find the ip cause thats all ive got. The switch did have a ip set before but i dont know what it is. I also dont have a null modem cable that i can use to connect it via serial. Its a 3com Superstack II 3900

Check your DHCP on the off chance it is set to obtain IP address automatically.

Nope nothing in DHCP for it

The leads are not expensive just take a look on eBay.

Plug it into a machine running wireshark and power cycle it and look for arp stuff. It's cheap and might just work

I suspect this will only work if your on the same ip range / subnet as the switch. You could try some common ones I suppose....

I'll buy a cable if i cant get the ip some other way, is there no programs that will let me input the mac and it will find out the ip some way

You can assign an ip address to a MAC address using the ARP command. The console port is usually the best be though.
