Hi all

We are considering switching to a new MIS. We are currently using Progresso. We are trying to work out how we move documents stored against a learners record. Have any of you guys been through this process.

Thanks in advance

We moved from SIMS to Facility/ePortal. Subsequently, we moved from Facility/ePortal to Bromcom (our current MIS) I wasn't involved in the migration but I can say that, as I understand it, for a fee Bromcom migrated our existing data to the new MIS.

We were allowed, for a short time only, to keep a read only version of the old MIS. After that time had expired, and because we had not confirmed it with them, Serco first line (whatever they are now, I understand that they have changed name again) asked us to confirm that all of their software had been removed from our server and that we were no longer running their software.

Documents can be a tricky one but there is normally a way if you wish to pay. Progresso does have a built in accessible API so should be possible I would have thought. If your thinking of switching there isnt a great long list of options so I'd be tempted to just bang an email off to the 3-4 providers that would be considered then you're fully in the picture. That said I would never make this a barrier to adopting a particular MIS. worst case you could get a temp to upload docs to your new system if you deemed them essential to be retained and available in the new MIS. But I would be looking at some higher level goals at this stage in an MIS review process.
