Morning all,

We have been using Google Drive for a while now, unfortunately to make the transition easier, we installed Drive File Stream for all staff. Now they are all completely reliant on the G drive being there so they can save via the file explorer / office.

I want to turn off the team drives being visible from the G drive, basically so they are forced to use docs, sheets and slides to collaborate on documents (you know, as it was intended). I know that at one point you could only see Team Drives within the G drive if you was a content manager, however that isn't really what I want.

If not, do many of you use Drive File Stream or just turn it off? Thanks in advance.

If I've understood correctly, Team Drives (Shared Drives) are used for the likes of StaffCommon and others areas.

You can in theory switch this off, but it just means they can only use and see My Drive, with or without File Stream.

Sorry my target is to make it so they can access their My Drive through Drive File Steam, but can only access Team Drives (shared drives), by going via the web browser.

You can't do that (to the best of my knowledge). When you authenticate into the browser or File Stream, it reads whatever permissions you've allocated in G Suite.

If you want to force them to use Docs, Sheets etc, you could just uninstall MS Office....

This is more the approach I will be taking. We are on office 2013 and will need to upgrade soon (ish). At that point it will just make sense to not upgrade and I can then look at removing office, starting with people I know are already using the online version of Drive.
