[1809, ou] Mapped Drives are hit and miss after connecting to the VPN

Hi all,

 

We use GPP to map network drives. With everyone working from home with laptops and a VPN connection, we are noticing a that users are unable to immediately open mapped network drive after connecting to the VPN.

 

 

Has anyone come across this before and is there a fix?

 

Most users are able to wait 15 minutes or so, they are able to open the drives.

My immediate thought is are you connecting via IP address or FQDN? On my VPN it didn't like FQDN until I input the DNS servers manually (via IP)

The GPP use FQDN.

 

Are you suggesting I change them to IP addresses instead?

 

I will change a few to see if the behaviour changes.

I think it's worth a test yes, then you can narrow down the options.

I'd say this is a GPO syncing issue. I.e. you connect to the VPN then 15 mins later the GPO updates and boom you have your drives.

 

How are you delivering the VPN? Can you run a script post connect to gpupdate?

It's an SSL client. Staff are manually connecting to the VPN if they need to access it. Not sure how I would be able to run a script after the client connects :\

Put a batch scipt on their desktop (that runs gpupdate) and if they dont have drives then they double click the script.

I will have to test that as I don't think they have permissions to run batch files.
