Network setup - Unifi Dream Machine Pro

Hi everyone,

 

I am hoping you can provide me with some advice on Unifi kit.

 

We currently have a Juniper SRX300 Gateway, WatchGuard M300 then 5 Unifi Switches and 20 Unifi HD APs. I like the Unifi kit and would like to move forward with it.

 

Has anyone used the Unifi Dream Machine Pro? Would this be enough to take way the Juniper and WatchGuard?

Whilst I haven’t yet used one. I’ve seen and read practically every review for these.

 

The basic upshot is that this is a step in the right direction for Ubiquiti, but it does have some flaws.

 

Most agree that the firewall rules, which are included are ok for a small business, but not so much for larger places.

There have been several problems with getting them set up in the first place (registered on the network etc), but once they are, they seem to be rock solid and very quiet.

 

If you need layer 3, it’s not there yet, but is ‘coming soon’ via software update.

 

Would I get one. In a heartbeat, but I would also potentially looking at having an extra firewall and having the dream machine pro do everything else.

Having experience of the dismal unifi USG devices, don't bother. I'd keep the juniper as that has NGFW and UTM capabilities unike any of the ubiquiti routers. Also that the unifi kit can't do SSL inspection/content filtering (think safeguarding...)
