Airwatch app blacklist

Does anyone know how to stop certain apps being installed on ipads managed with airwatch, and also to remove them if they are already installed?

 

I can create an app blacklist but it doesn't seem to do anything, and creating a compliance policy only seems to give me the option to remove managed apps, not one that someone may have installed themselves.

If you are managing these using Airwatch then just stop users from installing them....?

This is going to be for staff ipads, we want them to be able to install apps themselves for testing them out before we deploy to children etc, but i need to be able to block (and remove if already installed) a few specific apps.

Not familiar with airwatch as we use Jamf but I guess they work similarly as they have to work from the same apple Framework.

 

When a user installs an app from the app store it is installed as Unmanaged which means you can't manage that app. Does Airwatch have a way for users to install their own apps (jamf has self-service)? If they install apps via self-service it is installed as managed and we have more control over it.

 

If teachers want to test an, app we get a few licenses for it and deploy it to their iPad's. This allows us to then remove it if we need. We don't allow staff or students access to the app store. Everything is done via self-service.

Thanks, does sound like there isn't much I can do then. Will just run a compliance policy and speak to anyone that flags up as having it installed.

 

I guess the only way I could do it would be to actually deploy the apps we don't want them to have, forcing them to be managed, and then remove them! Seems a bit backwards though.

I would expect as a minimum for an MDM like Airwatch to have some sort of Self service portal where you can put the apps they need. If it doesn’t then it’s a really awful solution.

I'm pretty sure we can, but felt it was best for them to be able to use the app store and not be limited to what we provide for them. We can audit the ipads and see what they have installed.
