Hello,

I am wondering who on here is using FortiGate Firewalls please? I am looking for some feedback please? How easy do you find the product to use? Is technical support good? Any other comments would be gratefully received.

We don't have a requirement to web filter the connection so I am not looking to use those features.

Thanks

Hi

I use fortigates across the schools, great product, easy to use and setup.

I also use fortianylzer for logs( we use the web filter) forticlient for AV and VPN.

Honestly the best firewall I have had used.

Fortigates are in our opinion the best you can get. They're not the cheapest but you get a lot of functionality with them.

We host numerous ones in our data centre and virtualise them so customers get their own VDOM and can manage them on their own rather than put boxes on site. Added value is that they can create a WAN easily as everything terminates in an individual VDOM so they can control site to site policies and apply UTM traffic profiles.

All good stuff indeed.

They're ok, annoying you have to continue to pay them to get security fixes, and there's stuff you can't do in the gui, also their help website is a bit of a mess, with the 16 versions of the OS they keep going for some reason, links are often to the wrong version, seems like it's not created automatically. Auto the psu is external on the 60E, which is annoying for ups.

We have it, not in a school and I don't like it particularly. It is quite annoying to find things on often, you end up doing about 5 different things to setup the original one for no logical reason. I guess you call it a quirk of the system.

It also likes to often tell me that something with that name already exists, when it doesn't, you save a second time and it is happy.

The most stupid thing about them is that Fortigate's licensing is ridiculous, an example is the VPN client. Unless you pay extra you have to download it everytime you add someone new, it literally serves no purpose but to frustrate people to buy the more expensive license.

I am well aware there is a VPN Client built in to Windows. We would be using it if it did what we needed it to.

Except all the same options for the VPN type etc are not available within the Windows VPN Client, when compared to the Fortigate.
