Hi,

Just a very quick question (hopefully).

Is it possible for a Skype for Business user to make a call to a Skye home/personal user?

When a user tried to test this it came up with an error about a company policy / restrictions preventing it.

I had already made the appropriate changes to the Skype/Teams admin in Office 365, so I am not sure what the issue is. And the user is at home, so probably no firewall issue.

I followed the advice in this article

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/set-up-skype-for-business-online/let-skype-for-business-users-add-skype-contacts

Thanks,

Bruce.

Yes it is, the Skype user needs to be using a Microsoft account for the skype sign in not the old fashioned Skype name. Whilst it does seem to sometimes working and search for a Skype name it doesn't always work right.

I find both sides need to search and add each other to contacts and for the user on Skype for Business this process only works properly on a PC client not the Mac one so the Mac trick that seemed to work was get them to use a PC temp, add them to contacts and then go back to the Mac and they show up and work.

We tried this in the early days, and found if you invited someone in normal skype, it would take hours to days for the request to turn up on the other side, just wasn't worth it! I rue the day they gave both version the same name, I still have to mansplain the difference to people. Hopefully Teams replacing SkypeFB will sort this forever...

We've just experiencing what you described; user A (SfB) added user B (Skye) as a contact and proceeded to send a request for user to add user A to their contacts, but user A say they never received said request. For the moment we have advised that the contact must be added at both ends in advance of the Skype call. But doesn't anyone know if any fix for this issue?

Kind Regards,

Bruce.

We found it was not a very good way to contact external people, as it was not instant add, and was generally a kludge to get it working. We just issue a meeting request to the other person from SfB either in Outlook or the Scheduler and then get them in on the web version. Same in these Teams days.

Teams to consumer Skype is rolling out now so will have to see if this improves behaviour or not as I do agree it has been very hit and miss in O365, where I used to be with on-premise S4B worked much better and did seem more reliable.

As was said above just sending out a meeting is quite easy and as Teams is fully featured in Chrome and modern Edge there is less excuse to need to use it as you can just fire off a meeting and open in Chrome or Edge
