Gongalong Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Hi Folks, Any recommendations for alternatives to TeamViewer? It seems to be on the fritz as I've had two identicial IDs for users in different homes, and it fails to connect. Need to be like the run-once option with TeamViewer because this is for supporting home users. Can't require admin privs to run, needs to have a non-commercial license (or similar/free), and be something I can easily get a home user to run. Recommendations? Thanks
Asgard Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 (edited) We opted to copy @MW_NetSupport having been impressed with their customer service; Tawk.to for some limited real-time chat outside of Teams and then DualMon for accessing users computers - direct them to a login page enter a code and away you go Works an absolute treat across our trust and we have dealt with about 50 users this way since Thursday last week. MW_NetSupport Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Some ISPs block remote control tools. I know that TalkTalk won't allow Teamviewer to connect by default. 1
Gongalong Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 @MW_NetSupport Is NetSupport Manager easy to use over the Internet, and does it require a client installed on the remote PC? (I've used NetSupport School, which I know is essentially LAN based, so not sure how similar it is) Thanks
MW_NetSupport Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Hi Gongalong, to use NetSupport Manager across the internet you will need to setup a gateway server. This can either be a server on your local network which is accessible from the internet by setting up a port forwarding rule on your firewall, alternatively the gateway can be hosted on a cloud platform such as Azure or AWS. It does require a client to be installed on the machine you want to control, however we can simplify this process by having the client automatically license and apply the configuration during installation. 1
mrbios Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Senso has been absolutely fantastic for this. I've been supporting staff laptops in their homes in a web browser from any device, even on my phone in the garden, while I'm at home (though, not that easy to do on my phone i will admit). With nothing more than just installing an msi with a site code to point it at on their devices. 1

Gongalong Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 MSP360 needs installing, but Remote Utilities looks like it should work. Ta!
Gongalong Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Anyone had any luck with Windows' Quick Assist? I run it, but can't seem to get it to generate the 6 digit code. It takes me to my browser where i login with my Office 365 details, then it asks me to provide the code.

Will give it a go. @timbo343 They show a portable version, but oddly when you download it wants to instsall.
Cw2k Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 LogMeIn are doing an Emergency kit with Gotomeeting and RemoteAssist free during covid-19 for edu and charities. Takes about 5 days to get the licenses. RemoteAssist is clientless so the user just goes to the website in their browser and enter the session code you give them. 1
Gongalong Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Works fine here, after login in with o365 or Hotmail accounts. I tried on a local account and it's fine, so it's something peculiar to my O365 account. I can get it to work though, phew!

FragglePete Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Been using Anydesk recently - seems to work well - not as smooth as Teamviewer but doing the job nicely. I'm going invest in a license for our place when things settle back down - I've been that impressed with it. Pete 1
Gongalong Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 Frustratingingly MSP360, Quick Assist, and even TeamViewer, can't cope with an admin privs dialog popping up. It locks me out. @FragglePete Any ideas if AnyDesk can cope with this?

Gongalong Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 It does at least allow me to send credentials, having tested with a second PC here. Will give it a go with staff and see what happens...
Gongalong Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 Worked well for one PC. On the second PC I could only see the browser, so not sure what happened. We tried reconnecting several times, no dice, so had to give up. The member of staff has to click on both the Allow and the Windows elevated credentials for AnyDesk, so not sure if something went wrong there.
