Olivetti vs Canon

Hi all,

 

Just in the final stages of a Managed Print Project - come down to Olivetti or Canon hardware. After some other people's thoughts/views - there's not much in it cost wise, and I like both hardware offerings. Need some help deciding!

Which has the better software? Which updates the firmware on the devices so they're not the least secure computer on the network? Which switched from SMB1 to something invented in this millennium first?

I've not heard of Olivetti for many many years so thats a blast from the past.

 

I've used Canon MFDs for 6 years now in 2 places and found them to be good, where I am now we are direct with Canon and they are ok, I do have to chase RE firmware and some things but the kit is stable. I used a reseller where I used to be and they were proactive on firmware and checks and was good but the kit certainly seemed good and robust.

Software wise, we would be using PaperCut across them anyway, so that's slightly less relevant - however I have seen both interfaces, and tried the touch screens and both are very good. Both will be managed and supported by the suppliers, so firmware is not an issue - and both support more modern methods than SMB1!

 

I have used Olivetti before, and found them solid but have no first hand experience of Canon. Thanks for your thoughts - from what I've seen the Canon hardware does seem very good. Was hoping someone had used both recently so could more directly compare, from more than just a demo of each!

As Canon make there own equivalent of Papercut (Uniflow) we find that Canon are less helpful when it comes to something in the FW changed and upsets Papercut so ensuring your Reseller is a good one with Papercut and Canon is vital for sure.

 

I have Papercut on mine and it works fine but have had a couple of sitting in the middle of Canon V the Papercut reseller due to things being less updated than expected and also as we use Fiery RIP which isn't as good with Papercut as I would have hoped but we have certainly got going. The latest Canon interface is nice and removed some of the niggles of the old one for sure.

Personally I wouldn't use either but that's personal choice.

 

Olivetti are rebadged Konica. Both are popular brands out there.
