Sup guys!?

My friend's ipconfig says "Unable to query host name. Contact M$ blah blah blah" when trying to pull up an i.p.

How can I help him get across this problem?

Do you mean when you run:
ipconfig /all

right.

It's been like that for the past week. I havent been to his house yet today, but he called me just now to ask if I can find out online or ask on forums if there's a way around this.

It all happened because one of my friends other friend had accidentally tripped over the power surge and accidentally pulled it out of the power socket, disconnecting PC - Modem - Printer etc. When he plugged everything back in and attempted to continue roaming the net, it wouldn't allow him, so I try to ipconfig/ all, and then we got msg about "Unable to query host name".

I heard of Winsock tool and various other methods that I have saved as possible solutions.

From a command prompt, run this command:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Now reboot the machine, again open up a command prompt.

Try pinging 127.0.0.1 or localhost which is the computer itself. If that works, then proceed to plug in the modem and try connecting to the net.

ping 127.0.0.1

Yea I'llbe sure to try that once I get there. I'll end up taking my laptop there to be able to use online while I try and help.

Thanks a bunch!!!
