Teams (School team structures)

Do people mind sharing the structure of their schools Teams? Specifically their staff only teams.

 

We have a mix across our trust, i'm looking to come up with a "best practice" template for new schools.

 

Some schools go for.

[Team] ABC Primary School

- [Channel] Year R

- [Channel] Year 1

- [Channel] Year 2

- [Channel] Year 3

etc

 

Other have done.

[Team] ABC Primary School

- [Channel] Teachers

- [Channel] Support Staff

- [Channel] Leadership Team

etc

 

And then of course there's the ones I don't like to talk about...

- [Channel] Random channel name 1

- [Channel] Random channel name 2

- [Channel] Private channel only relevant for 1 user...

- [Channel] Some abbreviation no one knows...

Something to keep in mind, you lose some of the functions of tabs within Private channels. IE, you can add a Planner to a Team, but not a private channel within a Team.

 

At the moment, I've just let staff create their own and let them run with it. The only one I have setup 'globally' is Staff Shared Resources, as staff shared area of sorts.

So are you setting out the teams that are allowed? Teams I think is a tool that is used not just for static teams (Finance, Office, SLT) but for virtual teams so new school xyz project , new MIS project. Never thought of mandating it, we give the users the ability to request there own teams via our help desk and then have Flow (or whatever we are calling it this week) and PowerShell do the grunt work of creating the Team. Also IT do not have any access to those Teams. We just manage the life cycle piece and have a PowerShell script check that the teams meet a certain set of criteria, if they don't the they are deleted.

We use SDS for student classes as well as having an All-Teacher and All-AssociateStaff team with sub channels for each department
