Not sure what that question is about, teams works fine for live events with the basic service.

I would guess that the question comes from the documentation. It seems that with the appropriate hardware software and CDN you can do very fancy (for enterprise grade software) things, the type of things normally the reserve of professional broadcasters or people who are happy hacking something together out of lots of bits of OSS. These bits of Team's capabilities can most likely be ignored by schools.

 

Unfortunately the documentation doesn't have a clear path that says "Just use the teams client" because the target audience for the feature probably already have broadcast grade kit/contracts and are expecting and need to use them.

When you look at their documentation and follow the flow of how Live Events works, it shows 3rd part ecdn towards the end before attendees view the event.

 

Wasn’t sure if this was an optional step as it doesn’t clearly stay if needed or not.

Yeah you don't need it - I can only guess it lets you switch to another CDN if you want to.

If you're having hundreds of thousands of views I would imagine MS start charging you extra, so this allows you to shop around
