Our pastoral staff want to see the member of staff who has written the communication log in the overview when you go to student details > communication log. By default, it only lists the communicatee (i.e. parent/contact) on the search overview, and you have to click each log in turn to see which staff wrote it.

The pastoral team are asking that we instead populate the communicatee with the staff member, so that both communicatee and comminicator are the same (so that they can see the staff member in the search window list instead).

There doesn't seem to be any additional columns that can be added and by doing it the way they ask isn't exactly by design and loses the ability to make a note of which contact received the comms. It also wouldn't work for when a message is sent via schoolcomms as this auto populates the field.

Is there any way at all of making the communication log search overview include the member of staff who wrote it? It seems such a daft column arrangement, as we don't really care for some of the columns listed such as "context", "follow up" and "importance".

I know sometimes there is config that can change some things but I don't know if this can be.

What is the underlying issue you are trying to resolve? (i.e. why do you want to see the staff member who wrote it?) Could a report fill the need? Do you use any 3rd party systems that link with the communication log (I don't know if schoolcomms can read as well as write the comms log) and could that 3rd part system do what you are after?

To the best of my knowledge this bit of SIMS isn't configurable to do what you want.

They are keen to see this in the standard "communication log" search overview, rather than having to browse via a report (which takes longer...). It's an approach adopted at another trust school and they want to consolidate this, so isn't something I could really change as it would require them to make changes trust-wide.

SIMS is used as the primary tool and they are now looking at whether we stop using schoolcomms for actually logging communication to sims and just do it directly. I did suspect this element of SIMS wasn't configurable, it was a bit of a long shot but I am also hitting a blank when looking through typical configuration settings.

Sorry to post in something so old, but this is exactly what I need.

Can anyone advise on how to accomplish this?

Just adding these as I came across this thread when I was looking for a report; since I didn't find one I made a couple. One outputs communications for a specific student; the other outputs all communications made by a specific member of staff. Plus once you have one you could modify to suit. Change file extension to RepDef once you've downloaded, in order to import. To run these reports they are in Reports>Run Report>Focus>Communication

Communicator list.zip

Communicatee - specific student.zip
