Anyway of getting standalone Elite Dangerous in 2020?

My 13 year old son has discovered the delights of Elite Dangerous. Unfortunately he was using my account! I don't think he has broken anything, but I would really like him to have his own commander profile.

Seeing as up until now he has been sharing my Steam account for games and this ties in with my commander account when you launch ED I'd ideally like him to have his own.

Any ideas on what I can do to let him have his own account now that it bounces you into Steam to purchase a licence and I'd like him to still share my Steam account?

Thanks Dave, I was looking at the main Elite Dangerous site where it bounces you off to the Steam store for purchase. Nice to see you can still get the standalone installer

same i still use the standalone launcher but need to get my desk set back up for ED. and then get some space trucking done

If you purchased it via steam, is running directly still an option - if yes, how? I bought it when it was on offer for £4.99 pre Xmas as a gift for someone, but they don't want to have a steam account.
