Interactive TV install - USB Max length

Hi

 

Some advice needed.

 

We are looking to install 2 Interactive TVs. We would like to run the cables up to the ceiling and then down to the PC but the cable length is about 10 metres. I know there can be issues with USB cable lengths over 5 metres, Have had issues with interactive White boards in the past.

 

Am i likely to run in to the same issues with the TV? Does anyone run USB cables that long?

 

USB over Ethernet is an option but are expensive.

I have one long run in a classroom which is approx. 8m. to a SMART 4065.

We had issues originally using a 10m USB cable but these were cured by using a powered USB extender cable, similar to this one: https://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-c4/5m-usb-3-0-active-extension-cable-p515

 

I also found similar issues with long HDMI cables and the on-board graphics of the PC we were using. It produced some 'ghosting' around dark areas of the image produced on the display. Swapped the PC and this was cured so that's something else to watch out for.

The maximum cable run length for a USB cable is 5m unless you use an active extender. Something like this should do the job.

 

I have used them before with a SMART board, albeit a very long time ago.

We're using these - active USB A to USB B cables. No breaks in the chain, no conversions to Cat5 or anything silly like that. Installed a lot of these now and no failures. Highly recommended.

 

For HDMI we use these - again no breaks in the chain and no conversion. You do need to get it the right way around though so the amplifier works. Again no issues with these - lots installed.

We use active USB cables with the extender part built into the cable in several rooms. Have been happy with them so far.
