Summary of the role

We are seeking a Desktop Support Team Leader to join our existing team of four Customer Service Team Leaders.

Exeter IT is key to delivering the University's values and its world class reputation. The IT & Digital strategy will support the growing ambitions for education, research and professional services, and exploiting the opportunities from changing technology will enable the University to thrive in an increasingly digital environment.

What makes Exeter IT different is its defining characteristics: strong leadership, active collaboration, forward thinking, and delivering at pace. We expect our staff to be comfortable with responsibility, and be innovative and creative in the delivery of IT and digital services. Being able to adapt to the momentum of change and having the freedom of action will enable staff to deliver IT solutions that will have a positive impact on our students, academics, and professional services staff.

The post holder will manage a team of customer focused technicians providing excellent 2nd line Desktop Support services across Exeter campuses to enable users to make the best use of the IT facilities at their disposal. You will work as one of a team of three Desktop Support Team Leaders, and will work closely with the others in sharing management duties and organising the operational running of the department. As part of the Customer Services function you will also be expected to provide resilience for the AV Support Team Leaders as required.

About you

You will have good technical knowledge and IT skills, and be able to cope with a varied and demanding workload which also includes contributing to change projects and attending meetings that form part of the broader Service Management portfolio. You will supervise senior technicians to ensure that the IT requirements for seasonal events are fully project planned and executed, and will be a point of contact and liaison for IT Business Partners and other key stakeholders within Exeter IT.

Reporting to the Customer Services Manager, you will be proactive in your approach, with a strong drive towards both people development and service improvement. You will have a good knowledge of ITIL processes and be able to produce statistical reports for performance management.

The role will be required to work a 36.5 hour week over 5 days, and will be based at the Streatham and St Lukes’s campuses. You may be required to undertake additional hours to support busy periods as required by the role.
