Sims not supporting SQL 2016 from Spring 2020 without service packs - Questions

I remember reading that from the spring 2020 update Capita would not be supporting SQL 2016 unless it has service packs.

1. Where is the product road map in the Capita portal, I am going round and round but can't find it.

2. If a school has no service packs, can I install SP2, or do I need to install SP1 and then SP2?

3. The first school I have just checked has an SQL version of 13.0.4259.0, does this equate to SP1.

Sorry for all the questions.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread but my post received zero replies (maybe it's a silly question)....

When updating SQL (mine is 2014 but I guess it applies all round), do you need to do anything to the databases like detach them (primarily asking about SIMS, but again the info could be transferable)?

Mine hasn't been updated since install I think from looking at the version (File Version - 2014.120.2269.0) so is it ok going straight in and hit it with SP3 then CU4?

You can install SQL updates without having to detach databases etc. That said, it's sensible of course to make sure that your backups are in order before you update and to make sure that no-one is attempting to use SIMS while you're doing your work. Updating to SP3 then the latest CU will be fine.
