Chrome v Edge (Chromium)

Afternoon,

 

Just thinking about browsers and Windows 10. What are people going to do when Microsoft release their newest version of Edge in January? Isn't it based on the same code as Chrome?

 

Will you ditch Chrome and standardise on the new Edge? Or will you offer your users the choice?

Chrome tends to look after itself, auto updates, has GPO config, plus it's going to be less buggy for quite a while.

I've preferred Edge for many years now, but we install Chrome on all machines too, giving staff a choice. I don't see that changing as Edge has the, err, edge when it comes to AD FS, O365 & SharePoint management.

I think I will keep Chrome as the default for all users, deploy the new Edge and use it to replace Internet Explorer (since you will be able to load IE as a tab inside Edge for the sites that need it).

 

Chromium Edge also auto updates and has pretty much all of the same GPOs as Chrome does.

 

Microsoft is apparently going to include the new Edge in the next Windows 10 feature update (or the one after that).

I'll probably run both side-by-side as I prefer having a backup browser. As it's Chromium based, hopefully all the add-ons will work such as Impero, as that's been the main reason why we've blocked Edge for users. Maybe I'll make it default at some point after I've seen how it performs.
