Quarter Arcade machines - Anyone have any experience?

With Xmas coming up and with me being older and in the realm of having to buy yourself the 'ideal pressie', I've been toying witht he idea of buying my very own arcade cab. Given full size ones are both large and expensive, I have decided that Quarter Arcade cabs - Quarter Arcades | 1/4 Scale Arcade Cabinets | Numskull - fit the bill nicely.

At a quarter size and affordable I think I'd like to seek some advice first if anyone here has one and can point out any plus-points or problems with them.

Galaxians or Galaga are looking favorite!

I like the look of them but feel that a quarter size machine is way too small for actually playing the games. I get that a full size cabinet is probably overkill but if it were me I'd want someting in between.

 

 

I wonder if anywhere will sell you the panels/frame so you can pick your own screen and internals as constructing the cabinet is the hard part :confused:

I've heard good things but they seem awfully expensive for what they are. I understand why as they're effectively custom silicon, rather than a raspberry pi running an emulator, however for the money I'd rather buy something like a Nintendo Switch Lite or a Nintendo 2DSXL to run retro games.

Better size than that thing I would say looking at it and bigger joypad/buttons

I don't think its that hard as all the stuff is pre-cut from what I have seen, its very much a kit, though I may be wrong there :)

Problem with that one is that it's thinner MDF, and no groove cut for T-molding.

 

I'd stick with this if you want the bigger screen:

the stand is £80 though...

 

I've just spotted a cheap cabinet kit quite local for £50 collected...

I actually tried a couple of the Numskull machines at EGX this year. The little joystick seemed to me to be quite flimsy, and I doubt it could sustain a lot of abuse. Plus, it was tough to control! They looked great though. Edited by DeGrimmy

I got that impression after looking at the videos online of them. The Picade joystick looks a lot more robust.

I am actually considering the PiCade, would make a nice little project for the winter months.

 

I would like to get one myself, just can't afford that atm with Christmas

 

It does look sturdy like a proper arcade machine quality set of buttons and joystick
