Adobe Photoshop v Serif Affinity Photo + staff usage

OK people, seeking the wisdom of the community here....

 

As we know Adobe Photoshop is still the "go to" app for photo editing. However being realistic:

 

1) Adobe CS6 being too old and no longer available for purchase

2) Adobe CC too expensive and complicated with shared/device licences and users signing into the apps (also been told we can't afford it) + plus our 8-year old Macbooks don't support it anyway.

3) Serif Affinity Photo does most of what Photoshop does and let's be honest, far cheaper, easier deployment etc. Also works on our current Macbook setup.

 

I've asked a member of teaching staff to look into it for their feedback as that's pretty much the only real affordable option we have available - unless they want to go for using GIMP. The feedback for the Trial was so far "I can't get my head around it".

 

Hang on, wait a minute - if you can't get your head around this - how did you learn "Photoshop" that's far more complicated? Nobody taught me it, didn't get sent on any course for it etc. I started from scratch and figured stuff out. I see if as a cop-out and excuse basically from them, as they can't be bothered and it's simply a case of "I want, I want, I want" as we all seem to get in Education IT support sometimes.

 

I've done the proper thing and asked the input of the people who will actually be using the app and getting nowhere. Or am I being too generous and simply should tell them this what you get, tough.

 

Does anyone else come across this mentality of people not wanting to be part of the solution, but part of the problem and not working with us?

Some people are just resistant to change and you'll never change their minds. Others may be a bit vocal about it but if they are shown how to use the new software for 30 mins they realise it's not that hard.

We use paint.net here for those that want to edit photos. There aren't that many that do though as we are a primary school, but it's easy enough to use that you can show someone the basics and they can pick up the rest via google.
