Azure AD Connect Soft Match

Hi,

 

I am planning to deploy Azure AD Connect. I wanted to stage the deployment so that staff are synced first give the staff a few weeks to adjust then apply the sync to students. This is because we will have to change the usernames of the staff and students for the soft matching process. I believe I read somewhere that the soft matching process can only be done once? So, is it possible to stage the deployment? I can't find any MS documentation about staging a deployment of DirSync in this way?

You can use Domain/OU Filtering in AADC to only sync certain OUs (I'd recommend doing this, otherwise it'll sync everything). Just choose the OU of your staff users for now, then go back in later and choose the student OU.

I was hoping that would be the answer. I just couldn't find any documentation saying it'll re-run the soft match once I expand the filter to include the student OUs.

Matching is done when a new account is projected from Azure AD Connect to Azure AD. Why do you have to change the usernames, do your people actually login with UPN?
