Razer gaming keyboard vs all the others

My son wants a RGB gaming KB for Xmas and as I've saved up the money to be able to spend enough for a semi-decent one he tells me he wants a Razer.

Looking around I do see that, whilct well recived, they are often substantially more expensive for similarly (or better) specced keyboards from other manufacturers and mixed in with some talk about their quality sliding over the past couple of years.

So, what offers the best bang for buck (I'm looking at around the £70 markd for a Black Friday deal) that has the follwoing specs:

 

• Mechanical (Cherry red for preference)
  
• Full KB layout i.e. with numberpad ideally
  
• RGB
  
• Fully programmable
  

 

So, any ideas? As an example of the differnce in price and features I have found this:

I have a refurb Corsair K95 RGB and I cannot fault it at all.

 

When you say fully programmable do you want an extra set of keys you can assign macros to or are you talking about changing the RGB patterns?

 

The K95 RGB (non platinum) features 18 G Keys to the left of the main keys which can have macros assigned to them and comes with 3 modes you can switch between, in essence giving you 54 programmable keys.

 

If you can find a refurb model and the fact that it is refurb doesn't bother you I would say get one of these.

Can't go wrong with Corsair keyboards, best out there IMO!

 

I have the K70 IIRC best keyboard i've had, was over £100 but might be able to find one in the deals

Honestly, Corsair is my go to keyboard as well, bought three of the things over the past 5 years. (One for my gaming machine, one for the other half and one for myself at work)

Mainly colour allocation, although macro keys would be a nice bonus.

The K95 is well beyond budget, but I do see that there is an Amazon Warehouse one for £111.

I'll keep an eye out for their range over the next week or so.

I have the Corsair k70 lux rgb and I haven't had any problems with it

Possibly not for your son as it isn't fully programmable (with colours or macros), but an excellent value keyboard is the GameMax Strike for around £40. I got one recently to replace a much more expensive cherry red keyboard and it is just as good. The switches are made by Outemu rather than Cherry but if anything seem even smoother. The keys also use double-shot moulding meaning the letters won't wear off (most of the more expensive keyboards don't have these). Also don't let the amazingly gaudy multicoloured images used in all their advertising put you off, you can set them to be a more sensible colour.

Also I hate the fact Razer make such rubbish keyboards as I have found myself reliant on their Orbweaver model and am on the 3rd one due to failures (both replaced under warranty thankfully).

Which K95 is it? There is the Platinum edition and non platinum edition. The platinum edition has a single column of Macro Keys as opposed to the non platinum edition which has 3 columns.

 

Both support individual key RGB Lighting though.

I was weary of Razer from the reviews, seems to be a high amount of people saying they suffered failures on theirs and had replacements which are hassles I don't want, I had an EG one a while back until my 6 year old spilled a glass of coke on it and wiped it out, it was cheap and cheerful for an entry level keyboard. Atm im back on an old Advent one.

It was the Corsair K70 Mk 2.0. He's very happy with it
