Mimi- Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Hi, we have Zulu desk for managing our ipads, I've just taken it over and wondered if there was a setting for making sure the ipads updated ios overnight. I've seen a section for the app updates to happen over night but I've been looking into why our broadband is so slow and it's due to the updates. We have a EoFTTC 80Mbps connection and days where they update shows we max our 80 mbps bandwidth so the rest of the school slows down to a slow. slow speed. I am with RM which show me graphs and grids of the bandwidth, one day it was 82.43 and the pie chart that shows where the internet had been used was 75% 'apple update/i tunes' a smaller amount of the chart was "updates http.cdn-apple.com" Currently our iPads don't have a pattern, they just update at random times, such as in the middle of my computing lesson the other day that was a fun day! Thank you,
ShellfishClive Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 I don't think this is possible yet, it looks like they are working on schedule updates though. https://support.jamfschool.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360020621674-Scheduled-OS-Updates
Mimi- Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Thanks Shellfish Clive, you've helped me with both of my posts today. Much appreciated.
Brimstone Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Whilst scheduled updated are on their way soon, you can still defer iOS updates for up to 90 days on Supervised devices...
DaveTheTech Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Have you looked into using a caching server?
Mimi- Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Deferring I think is my next option, then I can turn it back on an update when I am ready or at inset days. I need to google what a a caching server is!
Mimi- Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl9388ba1b/mac This explains a Caching server well, thanks for the idea, I will keep looking into it.
