Arthur Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 A prequel to Game of Thrones. Hours after the news that one Game of Thrones prequel has been cancelled by HBO, another has been confirmed to be happening. Titled House of the Dragon, it's based on Thrones companion book Fire & Blood and has been given a 10-episode series by HBO. Set 300 years before the events of the main show, the prequel tells the story of House Targaryen. Fire & Blood author George RR Martin created the prequel with Ryan Condal (Colony), who will be a co-showrunner with Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik – the man behind 'Battle of the Bastards', 'Hardhome' and 'The Long Night'. Sapochnik will direct the first episode. A poster has already been released with the tagline: "Fire Will Reign" www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a29630151/game-of-thrones-house-of-the-dragon-hbo-prequel-series 1
FishCustard Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Very pleased that Benioff and Weiss are nowhere near this!
LeMarchand Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Very pleased that Benioff and Weiss are nowhere near this! Did you watch Colony? You may regret those words!
FishCustard Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Nooo.... why, are the same people making this that made that series? Was it awful?
LeMarchand Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Nooo.... why, are the same people making this that made that series? Was it awful? Fire & Blood author George RR Martin created the prequel with Ryan Condal (Colony) Colony started OK, but was one of those shows that seemed to consist of people making dumb decisions because the plot needed them to. I got about 1/2 way through S2.
LeMarchand Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Still not feeling it. Might be because I'm still waiting for GRRM to finish ASOIAF - and I had an advance copy (was in the trade at the time). Plus Matt Smith looks odd in a blonde wig.

LeMarchand Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Finally got around to the first ep. Much better than I was expecting, there was even a bit of colour in Westeros! The cast were generally good, though very few of them of them looked right in their blonde wigs. Matt Smith not only looked odd in his wig but, especially after seeing him topless in a sexposition scene (they're still doing those), was hard to accept as a knight who can demolish pretty much anyone in a tourney. He was good at creepy, even towards his 9(?) year old cousin, though. I watched this on my own as the ladies of the house had got wind of the already infamous birth scene (they wouldn't have been able to take it) and would have been quite happy to watch the next 2 eps if they weren't unsure if they wanted to watch the show. 1

The ladies decided against trying the show, so I managed ep 2. Was relieved that Rhaenyra wasn't the bump from the prologue and is 15, making her uncle's* advances slightly less creepy (but still pretty darn creepy). Still enjoyed it. Was surprised to read that the Shae analogue is played by Sonoya Mizuno from Devs. *Not her cousin. 1
Brax Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 I've been really enjoying this series. The cast are superb especially Matt and Milly and Paddy. I haven't read any of the books admittedly so a new story in Westeros has been really refreshing. Just finished episode 3 the other day and WOW what an episode.
