pbad Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 We purchased a replacement battery for the APC Smart-UPS RT 5000VA 230V and the battery is not charging. I double-checked the connectors and left the UPS on over night and the replace battery light is still blinking and an audible beep is emitted by the unit. The unit thinks the batteries need replacing even though they are brand new. Can anyone help?
chazzy2501 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 push and hold the test button, this may shake it into action. or fail
pbad Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 push and hold the test button, this may shake it into action. or fail I did the above. The audible beeping has stopped and the red light next to replace battery symbol is still red and blinking.
chazzy2501 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 then the UPS might be damaged. To be sure, I'd remove the battery and put a multi meter on it, should read around 50V
Davit2005 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Can you connect to the UPS using PowerChute with a USB cable and see what is going on? Or alternatively connect via Network if it has an NMC card.
pbad Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 We have 4 APC unit's in the school and the APC unit that went down powers 1 data cabinet. I did some rejigging and "borrowed" the batteries from another APC unit to power the APC unit that died as a temporary fix until new batteries were ordered. So I just installed the new batteries in the "borrowed" APC unit. I would expect the new batteries to just work in any APC unit, since they are all the same. I will have to resolve this during the half term holidays now because these APC units don't power on unless there is a battery in them.
pbad Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 So I have tried the new batteries in another APC Unit and the same thing is happening. The apc unit is beeping and the red light next to replace battery symbol is still red and blinking. Could the batteries be faulty?

pbad Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 We had the same issue and had to replace the whole unit I don't think the APC Units are faulty because the batteries that I borrowed from another APC unit work fine. It's just the APC units don't work with the new batteries.
HTCPCP Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 sounds like you might have got yourself a duff battery there, or a badly connected battery at least. RMA it and get them to send you a new one!

pbad Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 Replacement APC batteries delivered today and I installed them and they work. Problem resolved. I'm surprised that the original APC batteries that were sent were duds especially since the amount of money the school is paying for them.
