HyperV-2019

Dear all

 

I am moving from VMware to HyperV-2019 and have two servers with 4x 1GB NICs. I am looking at best way to configure to achieve best performance. The server will host virtual machines.

I would like to created fail over between two nodes.

 

Nics configuration

Nic1- Leave it for Host OS

Nic2- Hyperv management

Nic3- VM’s

Nic4- Failover

depending on your use case id do 1 for the host/management then team the other 3 together into a single nic and use that for everything else as its got built in failover

Host OS & Management are the same thing (Well I thought so). So as sted has said above. Go for a 3x NIC team and put host management in to the VM switch. That way you have redundancy on everything but failover. Or if you don't need the 2Gbps capacity, do two teams 2x2 so you have redundancy on both.

Im using 4 ports in a team on hyper v for host and management

My hosts have four ports as extras (PCI-E card) to the two onboard - I tend to team all four for the VMs via a virtual switch, then set one or both of the onboard NICs for host management. Doesn't increase the speed beyond 1Gb/s, but does share it where applicable and there's redundancy.
