Always On VPN - Scheduled Task

Hi,

 

I'm looking at options for deploying Windows 10 Always on VPN for our laptop users. We don't have MDM or SCCM, so looking at using a group policy deployed scheduled task to run the powershell script.

I can use a group policy preference to copy the script to local disk, which will allow changes to the XML VPN settings to be distributed to clients.

 

My only concern with having this set to run on computer startup is that I've observed that the VPN connection briefly drops and re-establishes every time the script runs. I'm a little wary that having this happen every time the computer starts up might disrupt policy processing etc.

 

Has anyone had any issues configuring the client VPN like this? do you have any delay set on the scheduled task trigger?

I believe that the script only needs to be installed once per client and must be ran in the SYSTEM context. My script is deployed out by SCCM, but I don't see why I couldn't deploy it out as a startup script via GP. Have you considered that?

We check for the presence of the connection in the script - if it's there, the script just exits.
